Youngsters with burning ambition can sign up to Fire Cadet course!
What is Fire Cadets?
Dowgate Fire Station is looking for youngsters interested in learning the skills to become a firefighter, by taking part in the next London Fire Brigade’s Fire Cadets programme.
Fire Cadets is a uniformed youth organisation that runs out of a local fire station (Shoreditch) one evening a week (Tuesday) from 18:00-21:00 for one academic school year.
The cadets get full uniform and work towards a BTEC Level 2 Award in the Fire & Rescue Service in the Community. The young people also take part in 3 fundraisers/social action in the year and are invited to many prestigious events to represent London Fire Brigade.
Young people have to be 14-17 (their 18th birthday must not be before December 2020). There is no other criteria they have to meet, we only have 16 spaces and look for the most keen and committed!
Cadets who complete their first year have the opportunity to apply to return for subsequent years training and development as a graduate cadet.
“Fire Cadets is an exciting youth engagement programme offering young people the opportunity to gain a credible qualification and life skills they can use in the workplace.
“It gives young people the opportunity to enhance key citizenship skills, build confidence and develop transferable skills.”
Cadets are aged between 14 and 17 and work closely with other uniformed cadet organisation’s and represent the London Fire Brigade at events.
Fire Cadet Coordinator Simon Wright said: “If you are a young person who is up for a challenge, wants to be part of something new and exciting, someone who can learn new skills like problem solving and working as a team, become a positive role model and achieve what you never thought possible, apply now! Spaces are limited!”
