Afasic supports and provides information for families with children and young adults who have Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) with a focus on Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

Description

Afasic is the UK charity representing children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). We work for their inclusion in society and offer information, support and guidance to their parents and carers.

Our services include a helpline, email support, free-to-download factsheets and access to our local networks.

We also produce information and training materials for professionals working with children and young people with SLCN.

  • Monday to Friday 9am-5pm
  • Helpline: Monday, Tuesday 9.15am-2.30pm and Wednesday to Friday 10.30am-2.30pm

Information

We are here to help provide information and support to children, young people, and families affected by Speech, Language and Communication Needs. Our current services include:

  • Providing a confidential, specialist telephone helpline service for carers and parents
  • Organising online courses for parents of children diagnosed with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
  • Organising courses for children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs who are leaving Primary School and starting Secondary School
  • Providing priority information on new/updated publications and events across the UK
    Information booklets that can be purchased from our website, to help with things such as Accessing Speech and Language Therapy or Claiming Benefits
